The Gem Condo · About Toa Payoh
Toa Payoh is one of the pioneer satellite towns, and one of the closest to the city centre. It is classed as an Urban Planning Zone by URA.
The township design follows the urban planning principles of the time, to be essentially self-sufficient, with all the necessary amenities in place.
The town centre is its focal point. It buzzes with activity all day long, and has an unmistakable character of its own. Old shops and hawker stalls jostle with new entrants like Starbucks, Ya Kun, Jollibean, and the ubiquitous food court. There is a Fairprice supermarket at one end of the pedestrian mall, and a community library at the other, with a wide variety of shops lining it.
And of course, Toa Payoh centre is home to HDB Hub where the HDB Headquarters are, and is well served by several law firms and banks.
Nowadays Toa Payoh is one of the most popular housing estates. As a mature estate, new HDB BTO flats are rarely available for sale, and the few that are, are several times over-subscribed.

Toa Payoh garden is noted for its plantings of willows, bamboos, and the vivid reds and yellows of the Delonix regia tree, forming colourful pathways that meander around. Right in the heart of the park is a 0.8 ha carp pond with a mini-waterfall and a cluster of linked islands.
These islands are arranged to offer a sequence of delightful vistas that open upon each other. There are also a children’s playground, a tea kiosk, garden shelters, and an open concept washroom.

There are ample sports facilities, mainly next to Toa Payoh town centre itself. Like the Toa Payoh Sports Hall, the 3,500 seat Toa Payoh Stadium next to it, and a Swimming Complex, where national swimmers train.
